Membership of the Church Buildings Council and the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England

Church Buildings Council (CBC)
There are 23 members of the CBC. The membership is laid down in the Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 and includes clergy, representatives of General Synod, architects, historians, conservators and others with expertise in church buildings, their contents and churchyards. Each member can serve for up to two terms of five years. Appointment are made by the Archbishops and General Synod, in consultation with various outside bodies, including the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The current chairman of the CBC is the Right Revd Graeme Knowles, Dean of St Paul's Cathedral.


Cathedrals Fabric Commission (CFCE)
There are 24 members of the Commission. The membership is laid down in the Care of Cathedrals Measure 1990, as amended, and includes cathedral clergy, architects, historians, liturgists, archaeologists and others with specialist knowledge. Appointments are made by the Archbishops and General Synod, in consultation with various outside bodies. Each member can serve for up to two terms of five years.

The current chairman of the CFCE is the Rt Hon Frank Field, MP.
