The Statutory Advisory Committee (formerly known Advisory Board for Redundant Churches (ABRC)) are the Commissioners' expert advisers on the architectural, historical and archaeological merit of redundant churches and their contents. They advise the Commissioners on plans involving structural alterations.
The Diocesan Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007 provides for the establishment of a new Church Buildings Council, which will be the successor body to the Council for the Care of Churches and the Advisory Board for Redundant Churches. This will come into force on 11 June 2008. The Church Buildings Council will be the single unified central Church source of information and advice on church buildings.
