The Adviser is best able to assist those willing to consider work over a wide area of the country. It is difficult to help those who, in this 'Sheffield Age' limit themselves by seeking a new appointment in just two dioceses in the South East, the Home Counties or the West of England.
The Adviser has the task of advising those making appointments on the availability for particular posts of possible candidates known to him, and of advising those seeking new appointments, but resources are limited and he is not able to help every man or woman to move to new work.
The Adviser's work is accepted and welcomed as a normal part of the process by which appointments are made in the Church of England. He visits diocesan staff meetings on a regular basis and is in regular contact with a large number of other patrons, including the Crown and the Lord Chancellor's Ecclesiastical Patronage Secretaries.
