Tell us what you think about our website
Those returning to the UK from service overseas should give the Adviser as much notice as possible. It is desirable that your papers should be circulated some weeks before you arrive in the UK.
Papers take time to complete as they include a commendation from the diocesan bishop and those references from referees mentioned by you. If you are to arrive in England in July we should want to send the papers out in the May circulation and would, if possible, begin the necessary work in March. The Adviser is able to make your availability known to every diocesan bishop and major patron in the country.
In addition to the above circulation you need to be very active yourself once you arrive in this country and are available for interview. You should follow up any possible contracts, advertisements in the Church Press, etc.
It is not very often that an offer is made while you are still abroad because patrons and Parish Representatives wish to interview a man or woman before appointment. The Adviser has no patronage and can only suggest names to those responsible for making particular appointments. During the past three years the great majority of priests returning from overseas have obtained an appointment in England within three months.
