Staff of the Council for Christian Unity

 

The Revd Canon Dr Paul Avis is General Secretary to the Council and oversees all aspects of the Council’s work. He participates in formal and informal conversations with other Christian Churches, maintains relations with the World Council of Churches and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and is co-secretary to the English Anglican-Roman Catholic Committee.

 

The Revd Dr Roger Paul  is National Adviser: Unity-in-Mission. He  has particular responsibility for local ecumenical relations in England as well as relations with Churches Together in England. He is co-secretary of the Anglican/Moravian Contact Group. He has a special responsibility to develop ways for the Church of England to participate with other churches in ecumenical mission, especially between the Church of England and the Methodist Church in the context of the Anglican/Methodist Covenant.

 

The Revd Dr Leslie Nathaniel European Secretary This post specifically focuses on relations with the Nordic and Baltic Lutheran Churches, the French Lutheran and Reformed Churches and (as Secretary to the  Meissen Commission) the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). The European Secretary also maintains relations with the Conference of European Churches.

 

Dr Martin Davie is Theological Secretary to the Council and Secretary to the Faith and Order Advisory Group, which advises the Council and the House of Bishops on matters of ecumenical and theological concern and keeps ecumenical initiatives under continuous review.

 

Mr Francis Bassett, Assistant Secretary, provides support in the areas of communication, education and resources and assists in servicing Council meetings.

 

Mrs Elspeth Coke is Secretary to the Revd Dr Roger Paul and the Revd Dr Leslie Nathaniel.

 

Mrs Caroline Kim is Executive Assistant to Revd Canon Dr Paul Avis and Dr Martin Davie.

 

The Council also works in close conjunction with the Ecumenical Secretary to the Archbishop of Canterbury, and with the  Director of Ecumenical Relations within the Anglican Communion.
