How to update your biographical entry


The next printed edition of Crockford is currently being compiled, and is due to be published in December 2009.

The Clergy Payments Department works closely with Crockford's Clerical Directory. Databases maintained by the two departments interlink, and your address and appointment details are automatically updated by the payroll. However, automatic updates can only be carried out for those on the Church Commissioners' Clergy Payroll.

If you are not on the central clergy payroll, or you need to make an amendment to your record, you need to advise the compilation team of any changes to ensure your entry is up to date.

Here are some further details about the type of information the compilation team require:

Honours and education

The details we require are the full names (and recognised abbreviations) of honours, degrees (including honorary degrees) and qualifications, the year received and, where applicable, the awarding institution. Fellowships and memberships of learned societies, academies and professional institutions also are included.

Theological training

Please provide the name of the institutions(s) attended and either the year of entry or the year in which a degree was awarded, if applicable.

Appointments

Parochial appointments are described in terms of benefice, rather than church or parish, and benefice names will be abbreviated as appropriate.

It is not Crockford policy to include any of the following: informal local arrangements or areas of special responsibility, emeritus appointments, licence/permission to officiate when another appointment was held at the same time, commissary appointments, examining chaplaincies and secular appointments (other than with registered charities or in education). Crockford does not distinguish between part-time and full-time appointments.

Alternative names

If you particularly wish to have an alternative name recorded, please give details, e.g. maiden names of married female clergy, or names relating to religious orders.
