International Development Issues

The Church of England has considered international development on a number of occasions in the past. Most recently the General Synod has considered the issues of:

GS Misc 634 - Development Matters – Christian Perspectives on Globalization

GS Misc 640 - Drop the Debt - Towards a new deal on debt

GS 1530 – Telling the Story – Being Positive about HIV/AIDS

"Trade Justice – A Christian Response to Global Poverty"

Trade Justice: A Christian Response to Global Poverty - Christian Aid

World Trade Organisation – Trade Ministerial Meeting (Cancun 2003)

In September 2004 the Church of England joined the Trade Justice Movement - the press release can be accessed here.

The Church of England is also a member of the Make Poverty History Coalition, a unique UK alliance of charities, trade unions, campaigning groups, faith communities, and celebrities who are mobilising around key opportunities in 2005 to drive forward the struggle against poverty and injustice.

As part of its commitment to both Trade Justice and Make Poverty History, the Church of England is contributing to the wider public and political debate in the following ways:
