Urban Strategy Consultative Group

The Urban Strategy Consultative Group supports and advises the work of the National Adviser on Urban Affairs through:

  • maintaining the Church of England's capacity to speak with authority about urban communities, poverty, social exclusion and public policy relating to these;
  • promoting theological reflection and appropriate action on questions of urban policy, poverty, social exclusion and Christian engagement with these issues;

  • monitoring developments on urban policy, and advise on Church engagement with government;

  • encouraging and promoting innovative models of church engagement and prophetic action in urban areas;

  • developing an overview of work and resources relating to urban areas, within the NCI structures and the Church of England;

  • advising the Urban Bishops Panel, the Archbishops' Council and the Mission & Public Affairs Council on ways in which the Church might engage more effectively in urban concerns through its mission and ministry, and its influence in the life of the nation.
