Environmental Investment

The Church Commissioners have invested £4 million in Impax Environmental Markets, a fund enabling investors to benefit from rapid and sustained growth in the markets for cleaner or more efficient delivery of basic services such as energy, water and waste.

This means the Commissioners are providing capital to companies whose activities aim to improve environmental performance. They also hope to profit from the huge growth potential of this area and the early signs are said to be encouraging.

A couple of famous street names are among the Church Commissioners’ recent major property investments: 26 Throgmorton Street, in London, purchased for £13.75m and 19 to 26 Long Acre, in Covent Garden, for £25.55m. The Commissioners also committed a total of £50m to two indirect property funds with diversified portfolios, the Macquarie Japan Fund and the ING Nordic fund.

Sales included two industrial estates at Willenhall in the West Midlands and Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, for £21.1m and £12.4m, respectively, and a mixed use building in Leamington Spa for £10.35m.
