The Quality Framework for Ordination Training

The quality framework for ordination training comprises:

  1. Publication of national standards in training expressed as learning outcomes to be achieved by the time of entry into ministry and in the first four years of ministry.  These are set out in Shaping the Future (2006).
  2. inspection of training institutions every five years, assessing fitness for purpose; scrutinising and making recommendations on governance, management, compliance, finance, educational and formational provision, teaching, learning and professional practice, student experience.  The aims of of inspection are to assess the fitness for the purpose of a training institution for preparing candidates for ordained and licensed ministry, and to make recommendations to enhance the life and work of the institution  The full inspection criteria are set out in each report and can also be seen here.
  3. Annual moderation of educational programmes with particular attention to student learning, attainment and its assessment. 
  4. Curriculum approval of programmes which lead to the exercise of ordained ministry every five years, i.e. approval of the principle and practice of curriculum design for programmes of education and formation.
