Marriage in Mind

A comprehensive resource for marriage preparation and marriage growth. A training manual produced by CPAS.

PRESENTATION
Produced in 1993, replacing one of the original MP packs, 'Side-by side'. The material and videos are contained within a box, with materials in a ring binder so that sheets can be easily taken out.

COST
Pack £50.00
Everything, including videos, needed to run a course is included. handouts for the couples are photocopiable.

CONTENT
The contents of the ring binder include a helpful section on different ways to use the material, the topics and a range of advice and materials for churches to help with the practicalities of running the course. Churches with no experience of marriage preparation would find help here.

The content of the course is based around six topics: The ceremony; Getting on together; Money and values; Intimacy; Children; and Conflict. The videos are intended to stimulate discussion and give further information. The section on different ways to use the material gives outlines for sessions, including ideas for activities and discussion. There are plenty of questionnaires and information on the sheets for couples.

APPROACH
The material is intended to be flexible enough to fit a variety of situations from a couple with a leader, to either a two-session or a six-session course. The material is also intended to be used for marriage enrichment or for marriage education in the church. Although written from an evangelical perspective, it is intended to help churches prepare couples for marriage, whether they are living together or not, whether they have been married before or not, and whether they are in the church or not.

OVERALL VERDICT
A comprehensive course with a lot of ideas. However, because it tries to satisfy a wide number of aims, it can be rather confusing on initial reading. Because of the speed of change in society, the videos are somewhat dated. CPAS are running down their stocks of this resource and there are no plans at the moment to replace it.
