Marriage Plus
A Study Pack for Couples. Produced by the Church of Scotland's Board
of Social Responsibility
PRESENTATION
This is a low-cost pack containing a set of cards suitable for using with
couples. It was produced in 1995 in response to a report on family life
put before the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1992.
COST
Pack £4.00
While the whole pack is copyright, cards inviting written answers may
be photocopied for use as worksheets.
CONTENT
The cards are divided into four sections on colour-coded cards. Each section
covers one main topic, with information, Bible references and questions.
The sections are: Practical points; Lasting love; Understanding
us; and Stable society. The cards are intended to stimulate discussion
and include some exercises for couples.
The pack was written for use in marriage preparation or marriage enrichment
or in study groups. Some of the cards are relevant only for those in the
Church of Scotland and assume a Christian commitment or sympathy on the
part of the participants. There are helpful references to biblical and
theological material.
There are a few helpful cards on how to use the pack for the different
purposes, but churches with no experience of marriage preparation would
need additional help.
APPROACH
This pack was intended to continue the discussion about issues raised
in the book 'The Future of the Family - a crisis of commitment.' It was
designed to trigger discussion amongst congregations about marriage and
family life.
OVERALL VERDICT
A useful, cheap resource for people intending to run marriage preparation
courses or to provide marriage enrichment or to use as a tool for provoking
wider discussion in the Church. However, it would need supplementing and
those less experienced at marriage preparation would need extra help.
Couples would need to have some sympathy towards the Christian faith.
