In July 2001, the General Synod passed a motion noting 'criticisms of the new Collects for Common Worship', and in the light of this criticism called on the House of Bishops to commission 'additional Collects for each Sunday and feast day in the liturgical year in a worthy contemporary idiom'.

The Collects and Post Communions in Traditional Language for Lesser Festivals, Common of the Saints and Special Occasions were previously only available as part of the President's Edition.
